We purchased a Spa Cover from "The Cover Guy"  in August 2007 that stated it was built for the Arizona climate and covered by a 5 year warranty.  By Fall 2010 three years later it was pretty shot.  Below is the email conversation with the company concerning the cover and whether the warranty was any good.

Hi,
Ordered the cover below from you in August 2007 and it's completely falling apart.
Waterlogged and seams are falling apart.  Needs to be replaced and only 3 years have gone by.
What is the warranty coverage?

Their Response

Hello, thank you for your email.
Please send pictures of the cover, we will review and get back to you.

Photos, 1,2, and 9 show the complete disintegration of the center seam.
Photos 6,7 show the underneath of the back half of the cover which is totally waterlogged to the point it is almost impossible to lift it.  The under fabric actually hangs down in the water and the foam appears that it has become totally saturated with water.

When it rains the tub fills up and has even overflown depending on the amount of rain.

The vinyl has been washed and treated regularly as specified.

Their Response

Hello, thank you for your email and pictures and we do apologize for the delay in getting back in touch with you.
Unfortunately this is not covered under the warranty. The issue of the sagging is caused by chemical damage.
What we can do is offer you a new cover with the upgrades at no charge.  A new cover would be $299.99.

If you would like to take advantage of this please let us know.

Well that’s disappointing as the warranty states: “Damage due to excessive chemical use or contact with other chemicals on the cover material” There has never been any excessive chemical use as the spa has always been well-maintained with chemicals in balance.

I will be looking for a cover from a different source since I need to find a cover that lasts longer than 3 years and can hold up to normal spa conditions.
The original Coleman cover that came with the SPA made it over 6 years.  Covers that only last three years @ $300+ break down to $100+ a year and that is an unacceptable ROI for that type of item.

Their Response

Hello, that is understandable.
We are very sorry we were not able to help.

They're currently advertising an extra two years warranty if you buy a hot tub cover now.  As you can see the original warranty is worthless, so not sure what the enticement would be to get an extra two years.  At least maybe this will help someone avoid buying a Spa Cover from this vendor.
